Port of Ibben
Fire & BloodPort of Ibben is named as one of the far-northern destinations reached by Corlys Velaryon during his seafaring explorations. The account places it at the end of a voyage through the Shivering Sea, but gives no further description of the port itself.
Place in the Northern Voyage
Corlys sailed north aboard the Ice Wolf, first visiting Braavos, Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, and Hardhome. From there he turned into the Shivering Sea and continued to Lorath and Port of Ibben. The itinerary makes the port part of a longer expedition through northern waters rather than an isolated stop.
Corlys Velaryon’s Exploration
The journey belonged to a pattern of increasingly ambitious voyages. Corlys had begun sailing as a boy and, by sixteen, was captain of the Cod Queen; over the following years his ships grew larger and his routes more dangerous. The Ice Wolf voyage carried him from familiar ports toward the cold reaches of the Shivering Sea, where a later northern search for a passage around Westeros would encounter only frozen seas and icebergs.
Significance in the Account
Port of Ibben marks the reach of Corlys’s early northern exploration: it is named alongside Lorath as a destination beyond the better-known stops on his route. Unlike the account of his later journeys aboard the Sea Snake, which emphasizes distant lands and extraordinary cargoes, this passage records Port of Ibben chiefly as a point reached on the way through the Shivering Sea.
